EVENTS @ TCCA of CALGARY
Throughout the year...
We are committed to keeping our members engaged and meeting new members as well as celebrating the many Turkish National Holidays throughout the year. While Sunday School is a great opportunity for anyone to join us during the school year, we invite you to come out to any of our other events to meet us or to celebrate with us.
Currently, we observe and/or celebrate the Turkish national events:
- 23 Nisan - April 23rd (National Sovereignty and Children's Day)
- 19 May - May 19th (Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day
- 30 Agustos - August 30th (Victory Day)
- 29 Ekim - October 29th (Republic Day)
- 10 Kasim - November 10th (Ataturk Memorial Day)
Other Gatherings
We also get together at various times during the year for events we have ear-marked as of being significant. Some of these include:
- ANZAC Day (April 25th)
- Global Fest (Last weeks in August)
- Calgary International Film Festival (Last week in September)
- Summer Picnic in the Park (Usually in September)
- CIBC Run for the Cure in (First week in October)
- 29 Ekim - October 29th (Flag Raising Ceremony)
Finally there are some events that just happen in Calgary that we attend. In the past these have included:
- Sultans of the Net (The women's National Volleball Team played against Team Canada and other countries in a tournament in Calgary between June 28th and July 2, 2022.
Upcoming Election
The Board of Directors is chosen by our members in an election held every two years typically at the end of January. The next election will be in January or February 2025.
EVENTS @ TCCA of CALGARY
29 Ekim - Republic Day
This is the premiere event that the TCCA of Calgary puts on annually. It is a formal event to celebrate the founding of the modern Republic of Turkiye by Ataturk. The ball consists of a dinner, music and dancing.
Goodbye to Summer Picnic
The annual picnic has become an event that the adults and kids have enjoyed the most together. We typically have the picnic in early or late summer and the turnout is usually very good. We have had great luck with the weather in the past few years, so we hope our fortune continues to the upcoming picnics.
23 Nisan
Ataturk proclaimed the 23rd of April as Children's Day for the kids. As the second most popular even in our calendar (1st if you ask the kids), 23 Nisan is highly sought after and usually has the highest attendance of our members. Activities include bouncy castles, face painting, folklore dancing and lots and lots of food.
Global Fest
For the last 6 years, the TCCA has taken part in one of the biggest and most spectacular festivals in Calgary - Global Fest.
